Online Reading Tutor Programme Ages 10-11

This year-long reading programme builds reading stamina to tackle long, unfamiliar extracts, practising retrieval, vocabulary, inference, summarising, prediction, author’s language, and evaluation. This prepares children for KS2 SATs reading expectations (if relevant), but also encouraging depth, independence, and love of reading.

Children learn to:

  • Read fluently and confidently across a wide range of texts.

  • Analyse language, themes, and author’s choices.

  • Develop higher-order skills: inference, deduction, justification with evidence.

  • Compare, summarise, and evaluate texts.

Key Features of the Programme:

  • KS2 SATs-style question practice embedded.

  • Guided Reading with support and discussion.

  • Independent Reading to develop stamina and track reflections.

  • Vocabulary Development: Word walls, context clues, dictionaries/thesauruses.

  • Text Variety - Fiction, Non-fiction,  poetry, playscripts, and non-fiction balanced across the year.

  • Assessment - check points at the end of each term

  • Parent Feedback and suggested support strategies.- when your child takes part in the learning sessions

  • Confidence building: Teach test strategies (skimming, prioritising questions, time management).
