Behaviour Policy
Our goal is to create a positive, focused, and respectful online learning environment where every child feels safe and can learn effectively. We will achieve this by:
Encouraging and celebrating positive behavior.
Establishing clear expectations for all students.
Ensuring a safe and productive virtual classroom.
Working in partnership with parents/guardians to support good conduct.
The Golden Rules
To make our expectations easy for children to remember, we have three Golden Rules:
Be Ready: Have your materials, be on time, and be prepared to learn.
Be Respectful: Listen to the tutor and other students, and use kind words.
Be Safe: Protect your personal information and follow online safety rules.
Online learning environment
A suitable environment is key to a successful online lesson.
Location: Students should attend lessons from a quiet, communal space in the home, such as a living room or study. Attending from a bedroom is discouraged, where possible, to enhance safeguarding and minimize distractions.
Backgrounds: The student's background should be free of distractions. Students should not expose inappropriate personal information or images in their background.
Sound: Students should mute their microphones when not speaking to minimize background noise. This includes family conversations, television, and pets.
Eating and drinking: To maintain focus and prevent spills on technology:
Snacks: We ask that students do not eat during the tuition session.
Drinks: A drink in a spill-proof cup or bottle is permitted.
Code of conduct during sessions
This code sets expectations for students during their online lessons.
Active participation: Students are expected to engage in the lesson, answer questions, and participate in all activities.
Listening: Students should listen attentively to the tutor and other students when they are speaking.
Use of chat function: The chat function is a learning tool and should only be used for relevant questions or comments related to the lesson.
No unauthorized use: Students should not take screenshots, photos, or videos of lessons. Unauthorized screen sharing is also prohibited.
Technology use: Other devices, such as mobile phones or games consoles, should not be used during the lesson.
Dress code
Even though lessons are online, we expect students to dress appropriately for a learning environment.
Appropriate clothing: Students should wear clothing which is clean, modest and distraction free.
No nightwear: Pajamas or nightclothes are not considered appropriate for lessons.
No costumes: Students should not wear costumes or clothes with logos or designs that can diatract from learning.
Modesty: Students must be dressed modestly and respectfully at all times.
Positive reinforcement and rewards
We believe in praising and celebrating good behavior.
Verbal praise: Tutors will offer specific and positive verbal praise during lessons.
Celebration: Excellent work or conduct may be highlighted with parental permission.
Responding to undesirable behavior
The following steps will be taken in the event of misbehavior. Our approach is based on communication and proportional responses.
Verbal warning: For minor distractions, the tutor will give a clear, calm verbal warning to the student.
Parental contact: If the behavior continues, the tutor will discreetly message or alert the supervising parent/guardian.
Temporary removal: If the behavior seriously disrupts the lesson, the tutor may temporarily disable the student's camera or microphone until they are ready to re-engage. The parent will be notified immediately.
Suspension of service: For persistent or serious misconduct, a formal meeting with the parents will be scheduled. This may result in the suspension or termination of tuition services.
Parental partnership
We view our relationship with parents as a partnership.
Parental supervision: Parents of children are responsible for ensuring their child has a responsible adult nearby during the lesson to offer support and monitor behavior.
Behavior at home: Parents are encouraged to reinforce the Golden Rules at home.
Open communication: If there are issues impacting a child's behavior, we ask parents to communicate with the tutor or DSL to work together on a solution.
